CONTEMPORARY WORKS DONATED TO THE MUSEUM BY A PASSIONATE COLLECTOR

As a tribute to this passionate collector, the Museum will showcase a selection from his donation of thirty four works of contemporary Canadian and international art, an area that held a special place in his heart. “Collecting has been a wonderful outlet for my own creative energy. I have no talent whatsoever as a painter, but I love being surrounded by beautiful works of art and sharing them with my friends and office partners. Collecting gives me a great sense of satisfaction and is an excellent way of counterbalancing one’s everyday life,”Mr. Heenan explained about his passion. As an art lover, he enjoyed meeting artists: “I get to know their vision, to understand what they are doing, and have the opportunity to visit them in their studios. This personal view provides a more in-depth perception of what the artist intends, and in turn these observations and relationships help to inform my own vision of Canadian art.” He also stressed the importance of reading and visiting galleries and museums to inform one’s taste: “Then buy what you like, even if it means buying against what is fashionable at the time.” He followed his own wise advice, and we are all the richer for it.
