CAMP
Prague, Czech Republic
Canadian photographer Edward Burtynsky is one of the most distinctive and respected representatives of contemporary landscape photography. In his photographic work he focuses on the transformation of the landscape, which loses its original character, and which is significantly affected by human activities.
Despite their narrative inconsistencies and alarming facts about the state of our planet, his large-format photographs of industry-transformed landscapes are artistically very impressive, and they lack magic and beauty. Thanks to the refined artistic feeling, the sense of composition and the ability to capture in detail the turbulent nature depicted in the work of Edward Burtynsky, he has been receiving worldwide attention for decades. His photographs are part of many prestigious gallery collections (Guggenheim Museum, Tate Modern, National Gallery of Canada).
At the CAMP, Edward Burtynsky will introduce himself to the Czech public for the first time ever. At his master class he will talk not only about his fascination with nature, but also about its vigorous transformation due to increasing industrialization and migration. Burtynsky will also present photographic projects on Anthropocene, Water, Oil and China, in which he has documented nature for the past twenty years right in the center of the world's largest industrial regions. Over eighty images from these series will be on the panoramic projection screen for two weeks. Everybody interested in the development, direction and fate of the Earth is invited to a lecture, photo exhibition and documentary film in which Edward Burtynsky participated.
