The term “ecology” evokes flourishing ecosystems, populated by an abundant variety of species that coexist in diverse habitats. It also has negative connotations due to the unprecedented environmental crisis affecting all living systems. Although the harmful impact of human activity reverberates everywhere, it is the populations who live in close relationship with nature who suffer the most devastating consequences. In Canada, as in other countries with a history of colonization, environmental inequalities are inextricably linked to the suffering of Indigenous peoples.
